Meet Kaitlin, HR Assistant at The HR Booth

This week we are highlighting our fantastic HR Assistant, Kaitlin. Kaitlin joined our team in October 2023 and has been a big part of our Admin team. As part of her role, she provides comprehensive first line support to our clients. This involves support with on-boarding, recruitment, letter writing, policy review, minute taking and also dealing with first line enquiries such as absence and conduct. We caught up with Kaitlin to find out more about her role at The HR Booth.

What does a typical day look like for you as an HR Assistant

I would say there isn’t really a ‘typical’ day as a HR Assistant. Yes, we have our daily tasks that we always do including monitoring mailboxes, daily absences for our clients, but each day can be very different. You can cover many different areas of HR in one day. You can also have a plan at the start of the day which can very quickly change when priorities change. Therefore, you must be flexible and adapt quickly to change.

What are some of the tasks you handle that people might not realise fall under your role?

I am responsible for monthly reporting for some of my clients. This includes pulling monthly training reports to identify training needs as well as HR reports which reports on HR activity within the business each month. This is something people may not realise that a HR Assistant is responsible for

Is there a part of your job you’ve really grown to enjoy?

I enjoy building relationships with my clients, and you feel like you also become part of their team too!

How do you stay organised when there’s a lot coming in from different people across the team?

I always prioritise my workload and ensure that I have tasks set up for all upcoming work and projects that I have.

What do you find most rewarding about your role – even if it’s something small that others might not see?

I think it’s most rewarding when a client gives you good feedback. It’s nice to see that the hard work that you put in is noticed and it makes you more motivated to keep progressing.

Outside of work, what helps you switch off and recharge after a busy day?

I like to put my feet up with a good TV series and some snacks and wind down after a stressful day.

What would you say to someone thinking about getting into an HR Assistant role – any advice or things you wish you’d known when you started?

A HR Assistant role is very fast paced, and some days can be stressful. However, it is also rewarding to see your hard work pay off and how this can benefit our clients. One thing I didn’t realise before I started within this role, is how much you learn from it and grow as a person. For me, I can see my confidence has grown massively by communicating with our clients and picking up tasks that are completely out of my comfort zone. You are guaranteed to learn something new every day!

What do you enjoy most about The HR Booth?

I love the variety of work at The HR Booth and that no two days are the same. The work is also very fast paced which I enjoy as I love a challenge. I also love the team ethos and the values of the company as you are truly valued as a team member and always supported.
