Meet The Team: John

Did you know that “John” is the most said word in The HR Booth office? (When we’re asking for John’s help!)

John will be celebrating his six year anniversary with The HR Booth come July this year, so let’s get to know him better:

1. How long have you worked for The HR Booth? I have been with Alistair since July 2018.

2. What’s your job role and what does a typical day look like? I am dual hatted, I am one of the Senior HR Consultants, as well as being the Service Delivery Manager.  The fact that there is no such thing as a typical day is what makes the role so exciting.  We can touch all aspects of HR during the course of a day, including Absence, Performance, Disciplinary, Grievance, Redundancy, TUPE, Recruitment and Settlement Agreements, however, we aim to move away from the view that HR is just here for the negatives, which is why I welcome the opportunity to become involved in the better side of HR for instance, employee engagement and benefits.

3. What can you support clients with? Every aspect of HR which I have just outlined, which then allows our clients to focus on their prime role.

4. What do you enjoy most about The HR Booth? I have already mentioned the sheer variety of the HR topics we touch at The HR Booth.  The culture we have at The HR Booth along the various members of the teams, is such that I genuinely love coming to work!

5. If you could visit any country in the world, where would you go and what would you want to experience there? My wife is South African, so I will probably have to say South Africa!  This is such a beautiful and diverse country and every trip I have had has always allowed me to have a different experience.

6. If you were stuck on a deserted island, what 3 items would you bring with you? My ‘comfortable’ chair from home. A mosquito net – for some reason they seem to prefer my blood over everybody else! A fire-starting kit – only because on all the survivals shows there seems to be issues lighting fires.  (In HR we are good at putting out fires but take every measure we can not to start them!

7. If you could swap jobs with anyone in the office for a day, who would it be, and why? Janine! Only due to the fact she sits next to me, so would be interesting to see what her perspective is!
