Balancing Act: Rachel’s Career Journey in HR and Business

At The HR Booth, we’re fortunate to have team members who bring not just skills and knowledge to the table, but passion, drive and real-life experience. Rachel is a fantastic example of this. Not only does she play a key role as our HR Consultant, she also runs her own business – a dynamic combination that demands focus, energy, and no small amount of organisation.

In this Meet the Team feature, we asked Rachel to share what it’s really like to juggle both roles, how she stays grounded, and the lessons she’s learned along the way.

Rachel’s Role at The HR Booth

Rachel has been part of The HR Booth team for over two years now, bringing with her a strong passion for people and process. In her role, no two days are ever the same. Whether she’s reviewing contracts and policies, supporting with investigations, or advising on absence cases, the variety of work is what keeps her energised.

There’s so much we can be involved in day to day – that’s what’s so great about being at The HR Booth.

Rachel provides clients with hands-on, practical support across a broad range of HR matters. From drafting tailored letter templates and updating handbooks, to supporting on grievances, disciplinaries and investigations – she’s there to offer clear and confident guidance at every stage.

What she enjoys most about The HR Booth is the supportive culture and collaborative team spirit.

”The culture here is brilliant – and the team are fab. There’s such a wide range of knowledge across the team, and we’re always learning from each other.”

Rachel’s experience, combined with her approachable style, makes her a valuable part of our growing team and a trusted partner to our clients.

Adapting to the Dual Role

When Rachel first began balancing her two roles, the biggest challenge was switching focus.

Probably switching from one role to the other and being fully focussed on one role at a time. It’s a lot of work but both roles I am very passionate about.

Passion is clearly at the heart of what she does – and it’s what keeps her going, even when the to-do list feels never-ending.

The Joy of Variety

One of the things Rachel enjoys most about her dual responsibilities is the contrast between them.

The sheer difference between the two. I get a lot of enjoyment out of them both and they both have different sets of goals and achievements. I like variety – it’s what keeps me motivated!

Having two very different roles may sound overwhelming, but for Rachel, it’s that variety that fuels her motivation.

Avoiding Burnout – Learning the Hard Way

Like many high achievers, Rachel admits burnout has been a challenge – but she’s learning how to manage it.

This is something that I do struggle with, but I am getting better at switching off. I am very much someone who likes to be kept busy, I am 100 miles an hour. But I have learned that rest is extremely important. Taking time for myself where I can and setting boundaries to ensure I’m not overdoing it!

Setting boundaries and being mindful about rest has helped Rachel find a more sustainable rhythm in her work and personal life.

Crossing Over – When Roles Influence Each Other

While the two roles are different, Rachel has noticed how skills from one benefit the other.

HR is very process driven, so it does help me implement processes within the business.

That structured thinking has proven useful in shaping and developing her own business, showing just how transferable certain skills can be.

Prioritising Personal Time

With such a busy schedule, personal time is essential – and Rachel makes a conscious effort to create space for it.

I love to travel, so me and my partner do a lot of city breaks throughout the year. I just make sure that I create the time rather than using the excuse that I don’t have the time – something I didn’t do before. Setting realistic expectations.

It’s a refreshing reminder that time doesn’t appear – we have to make it and protect it.

Learning Along the Way

When asked what she’s discovered about herself through this journey, Rachel doesn’t hesitate to reflect honestly.

That I am not superwoman – and I must be mad, LOL.

But perhaps that’s what makes her success all the more impressive – knowing her limits, being honest about the challenges, and pushing forward regardless.

Final Thoughts

Rachel’s journey is one that many people in today’s fast-paced working world can relate to – trying to balance multiple passions, avoiding burnout, and learning to carve out time for yourself. Her story is a brilliant example of how with the right mindset, support, and boundaries, it is possible to manage both career ambition and personal wellbeing. We’re proud to have her on the team.
